Many potential owners so desire to buy a Boxer that they care less than they should about the breeder. There are many irresponsible breeders, who do not screen buyers for breed suitability because they seek to get pups off their hands and to fill their wallets. When the dog becomes disqualified from a ring for a simple reason or has too many faults, many owners become disappointed and abandon it.

Some people view Boxers as guard dogs. It is not before the dog grows up that they realize this dog is not aggressive by nature and is not intended for guarding. This is also a reason for disenchantment and dog abandonment. If you purchased a puppy from an unknown breeder, you may face health problems that you will not know how handle.

You must know what illnesses the breed is susceptible to, and any true breeder must supply you with this information. Prepare yourself for expenditures should your dog fall suddenly ill. And, learn about spaying/neutering your pets in order to prevent production of faulty species.

As we can see, the abundance of rescue organizations and abandoned dogs has nothing to do with the dog itself, and everything to do with our ignorance, avarice and irresponsibility. Boxers are loveliest of all relatively large dogs, but this happens to be the other side of the coin.
