Boxer Dog Pictures

In the Boxer Dog pictures of the 19th century, you’ll see large and powerful dogs. Originally, Boxers were developed for pit fighting, bull baiting, and hunting large game. The immediate ancestor of the Boxer is the Brabant Bullenbeiser – a mastiff type dog bred for holding the prey during the hunt and controlling bulls. To perform such difficult tasks, these dogs had to be not only very powerful and determined, but also very intelligent and able to make independent decisions.

Boxer Dog pictures of today feature well-muscled middle-sized dogs. Male Boxers stand 57-63 cm (23-25 inches) at the withers and females stand 53-59 cm (21-23 inches) at the withers. The weight of Boxer males varies between 30 and 32 kg (66-70 lbs;) females weigh from 25 to 27 kg (55-60 pounds.) The body of the Boxer is short and square in proportion.

This breed is brachycephalic (having a short muzzle with an undershot jaw.) In Boxer Dog pictures, you’ll see that all purebred Boxers have a large head with a well-defined stop, large nose with open nostrils, large round eyes, and large square jaws. The undershot bite gives these dogs a secure grip, but it causes breathing difficulties and influences regulation of the body temperature. It’s due to the short muzzle, these dogs cannot stand extreme temperatures and humidity.

Working abilities and personality of these dogs are more important than conformation, but purebred dogs should correspond to the breed standard. The standard for this breed has not changed much since the end of the 19th century. The only exception is cropping the ears and docking the tail, which are nowadays optional and in some countries are banned. When you buy a dog for participating in shows, it should be of the highest quality. If you need a family pet or a guard, pay attention to the trainability, intelligence, and stable personality of the dog. Visit the kennel and see the parents and littermates of the puppy and pay attention on how the puppy interacts with humans and dogs. Boxer Dog pictures should not be taken into consideration, because they cannot tell you much about the personality of the dog.
